University of Bologna (IT)
The University of Bologna was founded in 1088. It is one of the most renowned and prestigious universities in Europe. It is the most populous university community in Italy, with 86,000 enrolled students, 2,800 professors (full, associate and assistant) and 3,000 technical and administrative staff.
UNIBO is a comprehensive institution of higher learning with 32 departments and 219 degree programs: 92 undergraduate (BA), 114 graduate (MA) and 13 single-cycle programs. UNIBO also offers 45 PhD programs, 52 schools of specialization, 74 professional courses, 16 of which are international.
UNIBO is a multi-campus university with 5 campuses in the Emilia-Romagna region: the main and oldest campus in Bologna, plus 4 additional campuses in Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini. Each campus has its own scientific and educational identity and maintains active and strong collaborative links with local authorities, organizations and communities in order to strengthen the cultural, economic and social development of these territories.
Strongly rooted in its territory, UNIBO is the most internationalized of all Italian universities:
- Internationalized educational offer: of the 219 degree programs activated at UNIBO, 69 are international, including 36 leading to a double/multiple/joint degree with other universities
- International student recruitment: UNIBO has 6,300 international students regularly enrolled in its courses.
- Participation in international E&T and research networks including Utrecht Network, Coimbra Group, The Guild, UNIMED, UNA Europa and Climate KIC, EIT Digital and EIT Raw Material
- Participation in EU-funded projects during 2014-2019: UNIBO participated in 147 Erasmus+ projects and 244 Horizon2020 projects, as well as in 27 other EU-funded research projects (Interreg, Life, Creative Europe, COST)
- Mobility - Each year, more than 2,200 students from the EU come to UNIBO on exchange programs, and more than 2,700 UNIBO students spend a study period in other EU countries. In 2018, UNIBO was the first university in Europe to offer Erasmus+ international mobility. If we also consider extra-EU mobility, these figures amount to more than 3,000 incoming students and more than 3,100 outgoing UNIBO students spending a study period abroad.
